The following is a summary of articles about Norway’s former Prime Minsiter Thorbjørn Jagland and his connections to Jeffrey Epstein. A more extensive coverage i Norwegian can be found here.
In an article in the newspaper VG on 03.02.2026, it is revealed that Jagland discussed a “common investment” and buying a huse with Epstein. Jagland had earlier said that the contact between him and Epstein consisted of “normal diplomatic activity”.
In e-mails released by the US Department of Justice, appearing to come from Norway’s former Prime Minister, Jagland asks Jeffrey Epstein for ecomomical help for buying a house.
One e-mail was sent on 28.09.2024 and contains the following:
“Hi, Jeffrey, good to see you in New York. Concerning my possible property in Oslo, I can get a loan of up to 7,5 million NOK, but I cannot get a good loan at that amount, or the amount is not enough. I have to reach 10 millions.”
One also finds:
“If you can guarantee (quite risky) for the rest, it would be a great help. For me, a 10 millon NOK loan is a bit much, as I do not want to have to much debt when I retire.
VG states that they have sent Jagland questions regarding the property sale. In an e-mail, Jagland answered that “Our properties are entirely financed through loans in DNB [bank], they are owned by me and my wife, a fact registered at Kartverket”.
Data from official registers confirm that Jagland bought a flat in Oslo the year after, in 2025, with a loan from DNB.
VG informs that Jagland has not answered more than the ebove mentioned, He has not answered why he asked Epstein for help, and if this is “normal diplomatic activity” between the two men.
The Council of Europe, where Jagland was Secretary General for 10 years, confirms that Epstein at least two times was in Jagland’s residence in Strasbourg. The Council of Europe also confirms that Jagland lived at Epstein’s residence in New York in 2018, and in Epstein’s residence in Paris in 2015 and 2018. VG writes that the meetings earlier have been mentioned in Epstein’s time plan and news articles, while Jagland himself has never acknowldged the meetings, except one meeting in Strasbourg in 2013.
In this article in Aftenposten, one can read that Jagland in 2014 planned to visit Epstein at his private island in the Caribean. The trip was scheduled to last for 11 days, and Jagland’s wife and sons were going with him. At this point of time, Jagland was Secretary General in the Council of Europe and leader of The Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Jagland’s trip to Epstein’s island is also the topic of this artivle in iNyheter.
iNyheter mentions that Jagland earlier has denied contact with Epstein, but then has acknowledget countact, saying that the contact has been part of diplomatic work.
In the last release of documents from the US Department of Justice (at the time of the iNyheter article), it is revealed that Jagland discussed a trip to Epstein’s island. On March 06, 2014, Epstein’s assistant Lesley Groff writes to advisor Cecilie de Jongh that Jagland wants to spend 11 days at the island. “I assume that JE does not want Jagland and his family to stay ay the island for elevan days. That is too long for a guest,” de Jongh writes in the email.
In other e-mails, Jagland discusses the trip with am unknown persom. This person writes in an email in 2014: “Hi, Mr. Jagland. I will help you with your trip to Palm Beach and Jeffrey’s island”.
The name of this person is censor marked in the documents. In the email correspondence, the person asks for birth of date and passport information from Jagland and his companions. The documents show that Jagland sent both births of date and passport numbers, and that family members were going with him.
The correspondence also contains other details about Jagland’s planned trip, but it is not confirmed in the documents whether he actually went to the island.
One can read that Jagland denied having gone to Epstein’s island. However, when the TV channel TV2 confronted Jagland with the e-mails showing that he had sendt passport information, he stopped answering questions.
