The Norwegian corona commission – no openness

Erik Strand, 08.10.2025

Steigan.no is a Norwegian website with a lot of interesting articles. This commentary from 01.04.2025 is no exception. The title means “When the law states that someone has broken the law”.

The law which is the subject here, is “Lov om informasjonstilgang m.m. for den uavhengige kommisjonen som skal gjennomgå og evaluere myndighetenes håndtering av covid-19-pandemien i Norge (Koronakommisjonen)” which means “Law on access to information for the independent commission which shall scrutinize and evaluate the authorities’s handling of the covid 19 pandemic in Norway (The Corona Commission)”.

This law with the unusual long name have some interesting details. Section 5 has the folloving headline: “prohibition on the use of information as evidence in subsequent criminal or civil proceedings”, and the content of the section is as follows:

“Information that the Corona Commission has received pursuant to Section 2 cannot be used as evidence in a subsequent criminal or civil case.”

Furthermore, section 6 has the following content:

Ҥ 6. Submission and disposal of documents
When the Corona Commission has completed its work, an archive delimitation of the commission’s document material shall be carried out. Material that is covered by the archiving obligation shall be submitted to the archive depository.

Material that is initially included in the commission’s archive, but which is not to be archived or preserved according to the rules in the Archives Act and associated regulations, shall be disposed of when the commission has completed its work.”

So the law states that if it is revealed that someone has done anything criminal, it is forbidden to use this information in a later criminal case.

The commentary then links to other articles on Steigan.no which documents that the Norwegian constitution has been broken in the handling of covid 19. The law forbidding material to be used in criminal cases, is just another sign of Norwegian authorities wanting to conceal illegal acts.
