Smartphones and mental health

Erik Strand, 08.03.2025

In an experiment, ten teenagers gave ut their smartphones for one month. It proved to be a positive experience. The article in the link above does not only describe this experiment; it also refers to, and links to more background on, Jonathan Haidt’s (Ph.D) words on the “Anxious generation”.

Positive results like this are valuable in making personal choices. It has also got some value in a societal setting, where the use of smartphones has become more and more mandatory. One can for example read this comment, focusing on how many activites have been dependent on having a smartphone. On a smaller scale, I have written a comment about how taking some bus trips on vacation in Norway can be troublesome, albeit still fully possible.
